Recently, we heard from one of our new users that a competitor was “surprised and confused” that they’d been eliminated from consideration for the builder’s online management solution. So surprised, it seems, that they are lowering their pricing, and “fibbing”, ‘er exaggerating about the quality of their feature set and advantages over BuildTools… We’ve seen this a few times now.
Our competitors (wrongly) claim the following:
The Fib: Training /Setup / Support: “We” have 17 employees! The other guys have 1 or 2 total. That is not enough resources to give you personal training and setup help… No other company can offer the same level of training/service….
The Truth: BuildTools service and support is second to none. True, we’re a small company, but we see that as a big advantage to our users. We’re nimble, reactive to our client’s requests & needs and focused on a small niche of the homebuilding and remodeling software market. We’re not a trendy, one-size-fits-all product. BuildTools is built for the specific needs of the custom builder and remodeler. Our staff of 6, plus our STAFF developers, is more than adequate to meet our client’s needs. Just ask them. We’re happy to put our prospective clients in touch with some of our fans / users!
The Myth: “We have over 1700 clients and 75,000 users… This is important because we have a client base that gives us financial stability to be in business for the long run…” Why is this a good thing?
The Truth: Wow. That’s a lot of builders… However, BuildTools is strong, profitable & backed by one of the nations top custom home builders & remodelers. Our clients get a real live person on the phone when they call, and have a dedicated support member assigned to their account. And, we have actual industry knowledge and experience. We’re not a software consultant who was disillusioned with the building process, and set-out to ‘fix’ his builder… Nor are we a software company that developed a product to fulfill a niche & to make a buck. Our solution grew from real world industry need and experience. Even in demonstrations, builders see that “there is something different about BuildTools…” We crave feedback and new ideas, and add features monthly, based on client requests. That sort of top-notch support and attention is not possible when the support to client ratio is 1/100! Call. See if we answer…
The Fib: ” Features. We offer Leads/Sales Management, Scheduling, Purchase Orders, Docs/Photos, Change Orders, Selections and Warranty. There is no feature that the other systems have that we don’t have. All of our features are stronger than theirs in every way…”
The Truth: Um, have you seen a demo of BuildTools yet? Fib’s not the right word here… We’re amazingly feature rich, add features monthly, and have a technology backbone that’s unmatched & cutting edge. We’re not going to give the “competitors” a list of features lacking in their product, but a short demo is pretty telling… Except for accounting – BuildTools is a one stop solution to manage an entire homebuilding or remodeling business. Maybe they aren’t fibbing, they just don’t realize what they are lacking! And another thing… It’s not just about features. As we’ve added features over the years, our competitors have followed, adding the features we’ve developed. Problem is, the competitor’s features have been cobbled on top of their pre-existing systems. It’s about integration. Our feature set is/ was fully integrated from it’s inception, PO’s are linked to the budget, which is linked to change orders, which are linked to selections…
The Fib: “We” have 4 in house developers. The other do not have this, they have 3rd party developers.
The Truth: Well, this one is just not true. BuildTools was originally built in house by a upper bracket custom home builder. Our roots are grounded in the industry. Our staff is largely comprised by rare individuals that have a background in both software development and homebuilding! Our developers are not only on staff, they have ownership in the business!
“….this is why I am confused as to why we are out of the running?” Says the competitor…
Guess who this prospective client signed up with… Yep. BuildTools.
